Fri. June 14th Bonnie Montgomery 8-11pm

image257

Upon first listening to Bonnie Montgomery, it’s easy to mistakenly assume that you’ve stumbled upon a long-buried track by a legend from the golden era of country/western music. Such is the artistry of this Arkansas native and silver-voiced songstress. Her story is of her journey, but she presents it through a folk/bluegrass/country perspective that’s traditional and timeless.
With Forever, her second full-length album, Montgomery once again delves into classic country sounds and storytelling. “It’s a concept album inspired by Willie Nelson’s Phases and Stages,” Montgomery says. “The songs are about life on the road, loss, and the mysticism of West Texas. We recorded it with love and magic in Austin, Texas, at Dale Watson’s Ameripolitan Studios.”

Friday June 28th Youngsville 8pm-11

image261

Youngsville is the name of a one street town in northern New Mexico. An old, quiet town where the Grandfather of Los, singer for the band Youngsville, was born.

Youngsville’s music can be eclectic, but is rooted in traditional singer-songwriting methods.

Sean’s pounding disco beats with latin and world influences create the foundation; Los’s powerful rock vocals and “chunky” guitar playing fill up the sound; and the haunting, beautiful voice of Allison Von Der Ahe add elegance and intensity to create what is Youngsville.

I am a performer and I want to touch and interact with people. I want my music to make you move your ass and become lost in it. The Coby Wier Band is a family involved and friendly endeavor. This is a legacy that I am continuing for future Wiers. This is bigger than me and it is my turn to carry the torch.

21st Century Blues

AUSTIN, TX – Texas-based guitarist Van Wilks, who’s won awards as Best Guitarist for both electric and acoustic categories and Best Blues-Rock Band four years in-a-row in the Austin Chronicle music poll, announces a January 29 release date for 21st Century Blues, his first studio album in 10 years, on Texas ’51 Records.

Produced by Van Wilks, who’s also been voted into the Austin Chronicle Texas Music Hall of Fame, 21st Century Blues was recorded and mixed by Chet Himes at Relentless Ranch Studios in Dripping Springs, Texas, and Chicken Run Studios in South Austin.

Texas-sized special guests on the new CD include Grammy-winner Christopher Cross and Austin vocal hero Malford Milligan, both of whom appear on “She Makes Me Crazy,” a song written by Cross (who also plays guitar on the track) with Milligan adding his trademark dynamic voice.

Also making his presence known on 21st Century Blues is the legendary Billy F. Gibbons, who co-wrote “Drive by Lover” with Wilks, a song that made its initial appearance on an earlier ZZ Top album.

Sat. Aug. 10th Kathy and The Kilowatts 8pm-11

image274

With their 2018 Nola Blue Records release of “Premonition of Love”, and the successful 2017 release of “Let’s Do This Thing”,  Kathy Murray and her band, the electrifying Kilowatts featuring Bill “Monster” Jones, reassert their place in the blues pantheon that helps Austin, TX keep its reputation as the Live Music Capital of  the World.

This is far from Murray’s first time at the rodeo. For decades she has helped keep a spotlight on the Texas capital’s blues scene. She cut her teeth during the golden era of Austin’s blues and R&B, sharing the stage with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and blues godfather W.C. Clark. In addition, she also took her rightful place among a veritable Murderer’s Row of formidable Austin blues women, including Marcia Ball, Lou Ann Barton and Angela Strehli. Along with the Kilowatts, she has shared the stage with headliners of the caliber of Albert Collins, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Albert King, Koko Taylor and others.

Sat. August 31 8-11pm Big Cedar Fever

image280

Big Cedar Fever is a three piece Western Swing band consisting of upright bass, fiddle, guitar and three part harmonies.

Formed in January of 2018, the trio includes Georgia Parker on jazz-box guitar, Ian Lee on fiddle, and Nick Lochman on the upright bass. With all three sharing vocal duties and trading instrumental solos, this is a group whose constant harmony is right up there with their prowess as a dance band. The up-and-comers have played host to crowds of Lindy hoppers, Texas two-steppers, and Western swing dancers. In their short time together they have also been at home in listening room environments, providing intimate sets that showcase a true love for the history of the music.

Fri. Sept 6th 8pm. The Ditch Crickets

image281

The Ditch Crickets started when the band lead Daniel Driver, a singer-songwriter out of Martindale Texas, began to listen to old recordings of Cajun songs. He started writing some of his own songs about hurricanes, gumbo, voodoo priestesses and drinking. Covering old Cajun tunes also came naturally, so he shared this new found passion with his friends, including David Beck of Tejano weekend on accordion. The band was joined by Central Texas folk troubadour Marshall Anderson on lead guitar, as well as Sterling Finlay of the legendary Cheatham Street Warehouse on upright bass. Mary Van Zant is the newest member on fiddle,  and the band is sometimes joined by a pedal steel. Keys and drums round out the full sound.

Sat. Sept 7th Graveltooth. 8pm-11

image282

Since forming in 2015 in Hudson Bend, TX, Graveltooth has become known for their explosive and gutsy rock and roll, heartfelt lyrics and soulful grooves that often venture into psychedelic terrain. Their sound is an amalgamation of many influences but is ultimately about taking an old school, down and dirty approach to music. It’s a sound that transports the listener to a seemingly long lost era of high-flying guitars and rock'n roll bravado.

Saturday Sept. 21st Nakia 8pm

image286

On season one of NBC's 'The Voice,' Nakia quickly became a fan favorite using his big grizzly voice to transform pop songs into his own unique style. While producers focused on his relationship with his husband and his struggle to make ends meet as a blues singer, what they didn't show you on TV was just how much Nakia accomplished on his own prior to show. Long before Nakia was a semifinalist on CeeLo Green's team, he was a beloved member of the Austin music community, fronting bands, performing solo, and working with some music's biggest names.

Saturday 28th Forlini and Cross 8pm-11.

image288

Forlini and Cross are gonna get ya with some of the best R & B you'll ever hear! A very well performed and produced CD! If you like Robert Cray or the T-Birds, you are going to love this music. It's honest and hard hitting on tunes like Spellbound and Wishin Well (The first song Joe and Mike wrote together). Joe's rendition of the Stevie Wonder song, Cause We've Ended, recorded by Jeff Beck, gave me goose bumps (really!). "Sunset" is a beautiful song written as a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughn and does'nt everybody know about a Wild Goose Cruise? Eddie Cantu on drums, nuff said.

Fri. Oct 25th Rusty Dusty

image295

Rusty Dusty formed upon the dawn of 2015 in San Marcos, Texas, a town of rivers, trains, and rock n roll. They rumble with the thumping rhythms of drummer JohnE "Thrust" Bowers and bassist David "WingStan" Russell. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Travis "Oopsy" Roper is accompanied on the front lines of stages, studios, and house floors by dual lead guitarists Pat "Pixieslick" Ford and Bryce "Lap Happenin" Brown. Rusty Dusty released their debut self-titled EP in 2016 followed by 2017’s single “Black Dog.” In March 2018 the five-piece released their debut full length album--a blend of gritty guitars with lush vocal harmonies--the melodic, chaotic carnival of “The No Good Serpentine Funtime Mosaic Experience”, recorded at MAP Studios. The released a 3-song EP called “The No Good B-Sides” in August. They are currently gigging around the area and writing more material to release soon.
